How we support children/young people with SEN starting at our school
Each year when we receive a new intake of children, we liaise and visit each child’s nursery setting to get to know the child and gain an insight into their level of need, support or intervention when they join the school. These visits also give us information regarding current agency involvement with the child to ensure a smooth transition which meets their needs from Day 1.
How we support children/young people with SEN moving between classes in our school
We recognize that transitions can be difficult for a child with SEND and take steps to ensure that any transition is as smooth as possible. We differentiate for SEN children in Maths and English by giving them access to a class where the pitch of teaching is accessible to their level of capability. We also provide in-house transition for children moving between classes and year groups – this allows children to move through the school as smoothly as possible.
How we support children/young people with SEN leaving our school
We take part in transition days with all secondary schools to ensure smooth transition. With the secondary school, we identify where specific and additional support may be needed again. We share information between schools regarding levels of need, support and intervention. We work closely with parents, Staff and the SENCO in secondary school to enable smooth transitions
If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.
