On Tuesday 12th March, Class 3 had another brilliant careers talk. This time we had a visit from Charlotte Tudor and her colleague Caroline. They are Ecologists. The children had no understanding of what this entailed so it was a great learning experience for them.
Charlotte and Caroline explained to the children all about their job and discussed the different skills and qualifications they have. They brought along a bat for the children to see – Poppy- who is a rescue bat and unfortunately due to injury now needs to be cared for by an adult (who is trained and qualified to do so).
The children were also given the opportunity to explore the delights of the inside of an owl pellet so basically everything that an owl cannot digest forms a tight pellet and is later spat up by the owl. The children thought this was amazing finding all sort of skulls and bones! Thank you very much for another great afternoon from Class 3.

Today Class 3 had a visit from PCSO’s Ian and Faye to discuss the issues surrounding ‘Hate Crime’. We talked about what a hate crime is, how offenders are punished and how the victim would feel. We looked at some local incidents and decided upon the action we would take if we became victim to a hate crime. Although this was a very serious topic, the children were very mature and all shared the same idea that crimes like this were unfair.

Today we had a visit from Claire King and Lorraine Carline to talk about their careers. Claire works at a veterinary practice and kindly brought along one of the vets into school to talk to us. Lorraine is a nurse on a children’s ward at one of our local hospitals. It was so interesting, they talked to us about their career paths and the qualifications they gained. They explained what they do on a daily basis and then let us use some of their equipment. Class 3 would like to say a huge thank you for giving us your time.
