A huge thank you to all who joined us on our annual ‘Big Walk’. Thankfully we had a glorious day for it and the children enjoyed their lunch outside after the walk.
Litter Pick 2017
We were very pleased to welcome Chris Hindmarch from Civic Pride to school today. Chris led us on a litter-picking mission down to the Wetlands and we collected six bags of rubbish!
It was a lovely day, a nice walk and we’ve made the environment that little bit better. Lots of reasons to feel good..! 🙂
Have a look at the pictures below.
Primary Engineer Leaders Awards 2017
We were so proud to have three winners this year in the 2017 Primary Engineer Leaders Awards.
Huge congratulations and back slaps go to Rubie, Kai and Lily for topping the categories and in representing their school so beautifully.
Rubie was selected by a panel of judges from the Reece Foundation and Siemens, amongst others, to be rewarded for her work in the form of a trophy which was presented to her at the Award Ceremony at the Discovery Museum, Newcastle on May 24.
Lily’s and Kai’s inventions were Highly Commended by the judges and this fact was  highlighted as part of their illustrations in the form of a Blue Rosette on each.
Ethan, Pippa, Archie, Holly and Paige also had their invention illustrations on display at the Public Exhibition at the Discovery Museum.
We’re hugely proud of our children and it’s especially good to see that we have a strong representation of girls achieving highly in this area.
Please take a moment to browse the photographs from the event below.

Wer schreibt denn heute noch Briefe?
Check us out – we’ve been included in a feature by our partner school, Ostschule in Giessen near Frankfurt in which they ask;
‘Who still writes letters today?’.
Well us, as it turns out and it’s nice to see that our partners in Germany are just as keen to hear from their counterparts as we are.

A huge well done to everyone who entered our annual Egg competition! All of the entries were wonderfully creative, which  once again made the judging process very difficult.

In Class 2 winners were Joel, Ethan and Paige.
In Class 3 prize winners were Lente, Paige and Harriet.
Bake Off Finalists..!
On Tuesday 28th February, Mr. Brown  and Mrs. Sturrock  took Mason, Molly, Lente and Holly  to London for the Educate and Celebrate Bake-Off Final.
We’ve been working with Educate and Celebrate to move forward with breaking down the barriers to LGBT+Inclusion. Ramshaw’s Parent Teacher Association, led by Paula Anderson, raised the money to finance the trip down to the capital and to the event at Clapton Girl’s Academy.
Liz Garrett, one of our Parent Governors had previously organised a Cel-a-bake initiative and this had gone down so well, that we were chosen as finalists for the Great Rainbow Bake-Off Final.
Ten schools from all parts of the country took part and watched by London Live, were given three hours to bake and decorate the perfect cake, following the theme of PSHE, LGBT and the Law.
The finalists worked furiously, watched by celebrity judge Alicya Eyo from Bad Girls and Emmerdale.
The design of our cake was inspired by one of our mums, Charlotte Tudor, who is a professional cake designer who coached the children in producing the perfect rainbow cake mix.
She produced the beautifully intricate PSHE centrepiece for the cake made entirely of sugar.
And we were delighted, in our first year of taking part, to be judged runners-up. The children received certificates, spatulas and a baking bag full of goodies. Local metalsmith Ben Johnson also produced a special commemorative bake off spoon for each of the finalists, to mark their first success in the competition.
It was an incredibly worthwhile and positive experience for the children. They got to mix with such a variety of pupils from different backgrounds and cultures, got to produce a little masterpiece of a cake under strict time limits and ultimately, did their own little bit to make a positive change.
Please enjoy the photos of our day underneath. We’ve included the cakes of the other finalists below, (but we do think that ours stands out a bit…).
Thanks to Liz, Charlotte, Paula and everyone involved for a brilliant day.
World Book Day 2017
Once again, the children looked fabulous for our World Book Day celebrations. Take a look at some of the characters that came to school on Friday.

The Daily Mile!
Welcome back!
It’s a New School Year and this year, we’re going to be getting fitter!
We’ve started the Daily Mile this year. It’s simple and free and involves the children running, walking or jogging for fifteen minutes before lessons.
1 It takes place over just 15 minutes, with children averaging a mile each day.
2 Children run outside in the fresh air – and the weather is a benefit, not a barrier.
3 There’s no set up, tidy up, or equipment required.
4 Children run in their uniforms so no kit or changing time is needed.
5 It’s social, non-competitive and fun.
6 It’s fully inclusive; every child, whatever their circumstances, age or ability, succeeds at The Daily Mile.
7 Within 4 weeks, children who do The Daily Mile become fit.
8 The 15 minute break from lessons is invigorating and leaves children (and teachers!) more focused and ready to learn.
9 The time spent outside, in all weathers, helps children become better engaged with the outdoors and aware of their surroundings.
10 The Daily Mile is non-competitive, fully inclusive, and the children have fun!
11 The Daily Mile is also a social occasion, and improves relationships, giving children the opportunity to talk to their peers and teachers in a way they might not in the classroom.
12 The Daily Mile builds teamwork and leadership skills, with children helping and encouraging their peers.
13 Children bring the benefits home, eating and sleeping better and encouraging their families to get active together.
14 The Daily Mile builds self-esteem and confidence, improving children’s perception of exercise for life.
15 The Daily Mile is critical to reducing childhood inactivity and obesity. Children are getting fatter, younger, and we need to stop this in its tracks. Early scientific studies show that the level of obesity at Daily Mile Schools is around 45% less than the national average.
