The Daily Mile!

January 9, 2017 by admin

Welcome back!

It’s a New School Year and this year, we’re going to be getting fitter!

We’ve started the Daily Mile this year. It’s simple and free and involves the children running, walking or jogging for fifteen minutes before lessons.

1 It takes place over just 15 minutes, with children averaging a mile each day.

2 Children run outside in the fresh air – and the weather is a benefit, not a barrier.

3 There’s no set up, tidy up, or equipment required.

4 Children run in their uniforms so no kit or changing time is needed.

5 It’s social, non-competitive and fun.

6 It’s fully inclusive; every child, whatever their circumstances, age or ability, succeeds at The Daily Mile.

7 Within 4 weeks, children who do The Daily Mile become fit.

8 The 15 minute break from lessons is invigorating and leaves children (and teachers!) more focused and ready to learn.

9 The time spent outside, in all weathers, helps children become better engaged with the outdoors and aware of their surroundings.

10 The Daily Mile is non-competitive, fully inclusive, and the children have fun!

11 The Daily Mile is also a social occasion, and improves relationships, giving children the opportunity to talk to their peers and teachers in a way they might not in the classroom.

12 The Daily Mile builds teamwork and leadership skills, with children helping and encouraging their peers.

13 Children bring the benefits home, eating and sleeping better and encouraging their families to get active together.

14 The Daily Mile builds self-esteem and confidence, improving children’s perception of exercise for life.

15 The Daily Mile is critical to reducing childhood inactivity and obesity. Children are getting fatter, younger, and we need to stop this in its tracks. Early scientific studies show that the level of obesity at Daily Mile Schools is around 45% less than the national average.

Making Christingles

December 15, 2016 by admin

Today we were joined by the wonderful ladies from St Paul’s Church, who helped us make Christingles, for the service later this afternoon.

The children will read a poem all about Christingles and join in with carols throughout the service.

If the orange is the world

And the candle is the light

Then we know Jesus is with us

Every day and every night

If the sweets are the seasons

And gifts given by him

Then we know to always thank god

To cheer and clap and sing

If the ribbon is Jesus’  blood

His love is wrapped round us all

The no one needs to feel lonely

He’ll catch us when we fall

This is the Christingle

A service full of fun

Raising money for little children

God loves everyone.

Christmas Craft Morning

December 15, 2016 by admin

The FORS team came into school earlier in the week to work with the children. Together, they created some rather lovely Christmas crafts, which we were able to sell at our coffee morning. A big thank you to the ladies for all their help.

Christmas Baubles for Zoë’s Place

December 14, 2016 by admin

We are delighted to announce that our Christmas Bauble appeal has raised an amazing £100 for Zoë’s Place in Middlesbrough. Thank you for all those children who have taken part this year. The baubles are going to be delivered by some of the children to the residents of Lyon Court Nursing Home in the village. We are sure that they will be delighted with your generosity.

Stay and Play…!

December 13, 2016 by admin

It was so lovely to welcome our parents for an afternoon of play in Class One. Miss Burn, Mrs Stewart and Miss Cummings created rather a lovely Winter Wonderland for the children and parents.

From reindeer food and Christmas treats – to Christmas Angels and Christmas stockings, there was plenty to get all of us in a festive mood. Have a look at the photos below…

Northern Echo – Rainbow Cakes!

November 28, 2016 by admin

There’s a lovely piece in the Northern Echo this weekend, which focuses on the work that we’ve done in school on Anti-Bullying – with particular reference to LGBT issues. Liz and Beth Garrett baked us a wonderful Rainbow Cake for the event and worked with the children to bake special biscuits with the children.

And Pippa and Libby just model it so beautifully too!

Thanks so much to Liz and Beth for their hard work and kindness. They also made another Rainbow Cake for Class 1 when it was Will’s birthday!

Chocolate Bingo Night

November 23, 2016 by admin

A great big thank you to everyone who supported our Chocolate Bingo Night on 22nd November.

We’ve raised a massive £213.50 for  Friends of Ramshaw School and that’s brilliant, because it means that they have almost £1000 to help our children.

It was a lovely evening and super thanks go to Grace and Kim Clark and to Liz and Beth Garrett for their wonderful cakes and to all of our fabulous parents who helped.

Parent Forum – Tuesday 29th November.

October 31, 2016 by admin

I’d like to extend a warm welcome to all our parents and carers to our Parents Forum meeting on 29th November at 3:30p.m.

During the meeting, we’ll look at what’s coming up for our children, share our school development plan, see what’s working well and what isn’t and take some suggestions regarding next steps forward. As ever, it’ll be good to have your thoughts and ideas to help us with this.

Look forward to seeing you there.
